Yes, Gone With the Wind was the first thing that popped into our heads when we saw the magnificent entry way and staircase in this beautiful Cuenca home! But of course, in a house this grand, you must have an entrance like this! The home is 9,000 square feet with 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms! Big enough for a B&B, a high-end retirement home, or even your family and guests! Centrally located on 10,000 square feet of land on 12 de Abril, this mansion is one of those “behind the wall” hidden gems that Cuenca is famous for. The land alone is probably worth the asking price of $995,000! We must talk about that winding staircase first because it is breathtaking. Twisting up to the second floor, it is flooded in light from the giant overhead atrium style skylight that bathes the entire second floor and its balconies with sunshine. As grand as it is, it was built in an open-concept design, so it still allows the first-floor areas to feel open and inviting. Upon entering, once your eyes leave that beautiful staircase, you’ll see how large the open formal living room, dining room, bar area, chapel and social room are. And when you look up, after you stare at the beautiful crystal chandeliers, you’ll notice the balconies, one which comes off one of the guest bedrooms. And yes, we did say there was a chapel, which is a beautiful space set off by itself. A place where you can pray, meditate, or just contemplate in quiet. Then again, maybe the massive bar is the place for you to think! I know we thought about stopping for a scotch while we toured the home!
