Unaytambo sets the standard for the new hacienda style communities that are taking hold in Ecuador: large tracts of land (a hectare or more) within a private development, radically lowering costs and administrative worry. Just ask the North Americans who already call Unaytambo home.
When the ancestors of these lands took a break from their travels, they called the places designed for relaxation, “tambos.” This, combined with the Quichua word “unay” which means a long time, inspired the name Unaytambo, or “a place to take a long rest.” For once you get settled into this pastoral paradise, you may never want to leave.
Walk freely, surrounded by cows, horses, and open fields. Come home and watch the setting sun against the snow capped sunset while relaxing beside your fireplace. Unaytambo offers the possibility of enjoying life in relaxed, simple manner.
Unaytambo offers a variety of amenities to homeowners without any associated monthly fees. Security is monitored through a series of surveilance cameras, regular garden maintenance, and a sprinkler installations on every lot.
Children and adults alike will enjoy the hiking/horseback trails, the volleyball court, and the playground. There is even a cheese production area and a milking barn for those interested in producing their own dairy products (its easier than you think).
Unaytambo offers two home models which combine the rustic with the modern. The design utilizes open, functional spaces with first class materials and finishings. Or if you choose, design your own home utilizing the same architectural style.
Each lot already has its own title, simplifying the process of selling, donating, or passing along to next of kin down the road.
Unaytambo is a must visit project for anyone seeking a rustic natural lifestyle while still maintain reasonable proximity to shopping, world class medical services, and the international airport which is just a short 35 minute drive south.

About the Area
Unaytambo is located just 5 minutes from the town of Cayambe, in the northeast of the Pichincha province and just an hour away from Quito (and less than 45 minutes from the international airport). Transversed by the equator in an area priveledged with natural beauty, Unaytambo sits along the foothills near the long inactive volcano Cayambe.
Cayambe is an agricultural zone, lined with farms and old haciendas. Landowners are upper class with workers from surrounding areas working the land. The area is known for its cheese and caramel production. Additionally artisan breads and biscuits are renowned in the surroudning area, making Cayambe a popular weekend day trip for families in nearby Quito.
Cayambe is one of few places to combine priveledged hacienda style housing with easy access to amenities. Cayambe offers Banks, restaurants, farmacies etc, and heading south one has access to world class heath services. If you are looking at places like Cotacachi or Vilcabamba, but are nervous about the distance from health services, you must take a look at Cayambe as an alternative.
