Featured Destination: Olón
Just 50 minutes from Santa Elena and 2.5 hours from Guayaquil, it is the ideal beach to enjoy the calm waters of the Pacific, both for families looking to spend quality time together, and lovers looking to get away and rekindle their romance.
And with Montañita just 2kms to the south, it is the perfect location for those who want access to the sexy tropical nightlife that Montañita offers without being immersed in the noise and crowds 24 hours a day. Olón’s moderate swell offers prime conditions for practicing surfing and windsurfing.
Government investment is also helping to generate more visitors to the region. El Proyecto de Intervencion Teritorial Integral has devoted 64 million dollars to the province of Manabí to promote sustainable tourism. While much of these funds have been devoted to the beautification of Puerto López, the surrounding areas have also seen an influx of ecofriendly developments. Tens of thousands of visitors come to the area each year in hopes of catching a glimpse of the variety of whale species that come to Puerto López to birth their calves, and to visit one of the world´s few coastal rainforests in La Rinconada.
Due to this emphasis on conservation, the time needed to receive construction permits has risen, and some developers are opting to build farther south down the coastline. Whatever the causes, Olón is seeing a significant number of exciting projects popping up along its beaches as well. From the ocean view custom home sites of Lomas de Olón and Altos de Olón, to the affordable and tasteful constructions underway in Valles de Olón, both Ecuadorean and International buyers are being met with enticing opportunities.
With so much going in Olón´s direction, we foresee Olón transforming from a weekend vacation destination to one of Ecuador´s most attractive retirement spots in the next decade.
